Makiko Sugawa was born in 1974 and is worldwide known for her ink figures. Ravishing, delicate, fleshy are some key words connected to her work. There is mystery and I can see some kind of disenchantment too, like life is boring and we need to find happiness somewhere else. I see purity too, even if you’d never connect purity to her sexy images, but I still see it, and the fatigue of contemporary society too. Maybe it is the end of the geisha era as we know it, or as the occidental world knows it. Beside all these words what remains is that her lines are perfect and she puts amazing details and fantasy in her drawings.
