Hikari Shimoda will unveil her new body of work next December 11th at the Artcomplex Center of Tokyo. I love Hikari Shimoda. I really do. I love her because looking at her paintings is like getting lost in the universe. There are stars and black holes, there are humans and not humans, there is good and there is evil.
The title of her solo exhibition is The World God’s Dead and this is her statement about it: The catastrophic earthquake hit Japan in March 11, 2011. It was not killed many people but also occurred unprecedented atomic bom. This horrible tragedy was caused by the nuclear society system that adults built. It handover adult’s duties to children. Children gave birth to live this world are instantaneously burdened the world’s crime. They are also required to save the world. Now, we must face this real to live this world.
The Child fitting in the costume of Superman or Sailor Moon is indirectly the symbol of the world’s problems to have to be saved by them.
Hikari Shimoda was born in 1984.
