In questa casa ci sono molte ombre, fuse con superfici lucide come smalti giapponesi. Spirali psicotrope e brandelli temporali degli anni Sessanta, in cui la Pop Art di Andy Warhol si sposa da dio con le Veneri in pelliccia dei Velvet Underground. Ci sono fantasmi imprigionati in gabbie a crinolina, su scarpe a punta da ballerina classica o tacchi a spillo da vertigine. Corsetti, pvc nero, cuscini leopardati. Nella casa di Niba abitano strane creature. Animate ed allo stesso tempo artificiali, come i giocattoli di J.F. Sebastian in Blade Runner.
Gatti. Conigli bianchi. Micetti da latte. Ballerine.
Piccoli amici.
I gatti sono rigorosamente di razza Sphynx, ovvero gatti nudi. Affetti da ipotricotismo, questi animali sono stati selezionati con grande fatica proprio in base alla loro anomalia genetica, che li fa sembrare delle creature aliene. Vagamente demoniaci, orribili e bellissimi nella stessa misura, ultra-espressivi a causa delle mille pieghe sul muso, gli Sphynx sono fatti apposta per essere amati o odiati. Delicati fino all’inverosimile, devono essere protetti dal sole (con creme solari) e dal freddo (con coperte e vestitini). I gatti Sphynx sembrano gli animali da compagnia fatti apposta per indossare paramenti BDSM, per due motivi: da una parte hanno spesso la necessità di essere vestiti, dall’altra sono ossessivi nei confronti del loro padrone.
Hermione, ad esempio, indossa una tuta di latex integrale, stringata con catenelle d’acciaio sulla spina dorsale, con strategica apertura sull’affusolata coda: a pussycat with a cat-suit. Olivia ha sul posteriore un tatuaggio giapponese che raffigura il suo oggetto del desiderio, ovvero un pesce da recuperare dall’acquario. Celina ha una mascherina identica a quella di Cat-Woman e la coda trasformata in un frustino, da vero gatto con la coda a gatto a nove code. Celina si netta gli artigli freschi di manicure bianco-French, e sulla spalla porta la rappresentazione della sua preda, una rondine in stile tradizionale con le ali scheletrite. Liam ed Elvis hanno mise da cenobiti di Hell-Raiser. Liam mostra i denti, in un soffio sottolineato dalle fibbie di metallo sotto gola e dal teschio felino tatuato sul petto. Elvis esibisce i suoi otto capezzolini piercati, in omaggio a Diana di Efeso, la Signora degli Animali, che riservava la morte a chiunque vedesse il suo corpo denudato.
La natura tutta occhi dello Sphynx è perfettamente rappresentata da Matisse, con il suo tatuaggio a sacro cuore con spine di pesce, coronato da un occhio identico ai suoi.
I gatti Felish sono senz’ombra di dubbio degli Animagus, maghi e streghe istruiti a Hogwarts, con la passione segreta di trasformarsi in animali. Nella loro doppia vita babbana amano ascoltare gli Athamay e i primi Nine Inch Nails, e li capita spesso di bigiare le lezioni di Difesa dalle Arti Oscure per andarsene al Torture Garden.
Come i gatti, anche i conigli sono animali notturni, che di giorno preferiscono dormire. Per molti popoli la luna è in realtà un coniglio o una lepre, ovvero un animale docile come l’agnello, perfetto per il sacrificio e la resurrezione. Il Bianconiglio è un simbolo a cui non si riesce a resistere. Non si può fare a meno di seguirlo. Lo ha fatto Alice, fino a cadere nella sua tana, nel regno delle identità sperimentali e fluide, e lo ha fatto anche Neo, il cyber-jesus di Matrix. Ai coniglietti Rubber Rabbit di Niba piace frugare negli armadi di Trinity, e rubarle vestiti e accessori di latex.
Accanto agli abitanti, nella Happy House di Niba ci sono – chiaramente - dei mobili.
La loro storia parte negli anni Sessanta, quando Allen Jones propose i suoi arredi umani: donne trasformate in poltrone, appendiabiti e tavolini, nell’ultima deriva oggettuale della porno-casalinga, vestita da operatrice del sesso sado-maso, dedita alla cura della casa, sempre disponibile a soddisfare i peggiori desideri del suo padrone. Le Plastic Pleasure di Niba riprendono questo concetto sotto forma di gusci vuoti. Eteree, disincarnate, totalmente astratte, l’unica cosa che rimane di loro è la guaina da rubber-doll di lattice. Una maschera integrale, che annulla l’identità ed è sia protezione liberatoria che pratica di umiliazione. Anche in questo caso, Niba lavora sul confine concettuale fra essere vivente ed oggetto.
Oggetti dovrebbero essere anche i Fanting in Coils, carillon con strane ballerine, che hanno smesso da tempo il tutù. Animaletti d’appartamento, gatte legate ai loro tira-graffi, piccoli boudoir con pin up ricoperte di poli-isoprene luccicante.
Ciò che accomuna i lavori di Niba è il tema della cattività. La prigionia come forma di dominanza/sudditanza. I gatti nudi non possono essere altro che gatti d’appartamento, ed è consigliabile mettere delle reti a zanzariera sul balcone per evitare che scappino. Le mannequins Plastic Pleasure sono spesso complementi d’arredo. Le feline fatali si fanno ammirare dentro a teche di vetro. La gabbia delle crinoline di Dedalum, le legature del bondage sono strumenti di detenzione. Anche i Kitty Shivers, i cuccioletti di Sphynx con la testa basculante, sono gadget da tenere nell’abitacolo della macchina: possono vedere tutto il mondo sfilare davanti ai loro occhi, ma rimangono comunque all’interno di uno spazio chiuso.
Quello che ci rivelano gli abitanti della casa di Niba è che non è necessario avere un carceriere per essere imprigionati. Perché tutti loro sono prigionieri consenzienti, che hanno barattato la libertà con la loro perfetta ed incorruttibile bellezza.

There are many shadows in this house, melted together with surfaces shiny like japan. There are psychotropic spirals and temporal shreds from the Sixties, when Andy Warhol’s Pop Art went so well with Velvet Underground’s Venuses in Furs. There are ghosts, imprisoned in crinoline cages, with pointed shoes or vertigo high-heels. There are corsets, black PVC, leopardskin pillows. Strange creatures live in the house of Niba. They are animated and artificial at the same time, like the toys of J.F. Sebastian in Blade Runner.
Cats. White rabbits. Little milk kittens. Dancers.
Little friends.
The cats are strictly Sphynx breed copies, also known as naked cats. Suffering from hypotrichosis, these animals have been selected with great difficulty for their genetic anomaly, which makes them look like alien creatures. Slightly demonic, horrible and beautiful in the same measure, very expressive for their thousand folds on the snout, Sphynx cats seem perfect to be hated or loved. Delicate to excess, they have to be protected against the sun with sunblock creams, and against the cold with coats and pet-clothes. Sphynx cats seem to be the perfect pets to wear BDSM vestments, for two reasons. First, they often have to be dressed, second they are frequently obsessive towards their master.
Hermione, for example, wears an integral latex suit, fastened with steel chains down the spine, with a strategic opening on the tapering tail: a pussycat with a cat-suit. Olivia has a Japanese tattoo on her back, depicting her object of desire, a fish to catch in the fish-bowl. Celina wears a Cat Woman mask, and the tail transformed in a whip, like a real cat with a “real” cat-o’-nine-tail. Celina cleans her French-white claws, and she has the representation of her prey on the shoulders, a swallow with skeletal wings. Liam and Elvis got outfits in Hellraiser style. Liam shows his teeth, in a hiss underlined by metal buckles under his throat and a feline skull tattooed on his chest. Elvis shows his eight tiny and pierced teats, to pay homage to Artemis of Ephesus, the mistress of animals, the goddess who reserved death to the ones who happened to see her naked body.
The Sphynx’s big-eyed nature is perfectly represented by Matisse, and his tattoo with a sacred heart and fish-bones, crowned with an eye, identical to his ones.
Felish Cats are definitely Animagus, wizards and witches educated at Hogwarts, with the secret passion to transform themselves into animals. In their double Muggle life, they like to listen to Athamay and to the first Nine Inch Nails, and they often use to play hooky the classes of Defense Against Dark Arts to go to the Torture Garden.
Like cats, also rabbits are nocturnal animals, which prefer sleeping during the day. For many cultures, the moon is actually a rabbit or a hare, which means an animal meek as a lamb, perfect for sacrifice and resurrection. The White Rabbit is a symbol to which is impossible to resist. You have to follow it. Alice did it, till she fell into his burrow, into the realm of experimental and fluid identities. Also Neo, the cyber-jesus of Matrix, followed him. Niba’s Rubber Rabbits like to go through the wardrobe of Trinity, to stole her latex clothes and accessories.
In the Happy House of Niba, besides the inhabitants, there are obviously some pieces of furnishing.
Their history starts in the Sixties, when Allen Jones proposed his human-furniture: women transformed into armchairs, hat stands and tables, in the ultimate sex-object drift of the porno housewife. They were dressed as SM sexual operators, devoted to house caring, always willing to satisfy the worst desires of their masters. Niba’s Plastic Pleasures regain this concept in the shape of empty shells. Ethereal, disembodied, totally abstract, the only thing that remains of them is the latex rubber-doll catsuit. An integral mask, which nullifies identity, and is both a liberating protection and a humiliating practice at the same time. Also in this case, Niba works on the conceptual borderline between living beings and objects.
Also the Fainting in Coils should be objects: carillons with strange dancers, who cast off their tutus a long time ago. The Fainting in Coils are little pets, pussycats tied to their scratchposts, little boudoirs with pin-ups covered with shining polyisoprene.
The theme which pools all the works by Niba is captivity, imprisonment as a form of dominance/subjection. The naked cats could only be house pets, and it is advisable to put fly screens around the balcony if you are the owner of a Sphynx, to prevent its escape. The mannequins Plastic Pleasure are often pieces of furniture. The Felines Fatale could be admired inside a glass reliquary. The crinoline cages of Dedalum and the bondage tying are tools of detention. Also the Kitty Shivers, the little Sphynx puppies with swinging heads, are gadgets to place inside the car passenger compartment. They can see all the world parading in front of their eyes, but they always remain inside a closed space.
The inhabitants of the house of Niba reveal us that is not necessary to have a jailer to be imprisoned. Because they are all obliging prisoners, who have bartered freedom for their perfect and incorruptible beauty.
